Living in Malta:

Hanging American Laundry Out to Dry

Can you guess what's "wrong"with this photo?

I don't think I ever stole anything in my life. But I almost did the other day.

I've been hanging my laundry out on our roof. It's not like I never hung laundry before. I used to do it as a kid off our porch back in the States.

But then came college and driers and all that. Now I'm hanging out my clothes on a roof in Malta. It's funny, but this is when I truly feel like I'm in the Mediterranean. The sun feels great. Even though my arms get a little tired of lifting the clothes up and pinning them on the line, it's almost meditative.

And the clothes dry really quickly (except when they get rained on) with the sun and the breeze on them. And they truly smell fragrant after drying outside.

Back to what I almost did the other day. Actually, it was the first time I hung out all my stuff. I wondered if my American things looked like Maltese things that were out, drying in the warm sun. I stood back looking at everything blowing in the wind on top of a Mediterranean roof--the sheets, the towels, the jeans, the socks, the shirts--and the big fat panties. Those big fat American ass panties.

On another roof, I saw several pairs of tiny thongs. Tiny cute Maltese thongs that go on cute and curvy Maltese butts. I actually started strategically planning how to scale some walls to get at least one thong and add it to my line of laundry.

Seriously, I was embarrassed by those bloomers on my line and very jealous of the whoever wore those thongs. Then I just forced myself to forget it. Not that many people really see my clothes anyway, except maybe from the roof across from mine. But an older couple in their late 60s or early 70s live there--and they probably don't have anything better to show.

So now--several laundries later, I just enjoy the sun and breeze--and let everything hang out.
