Malta's General Workers Union this week called for a crackdown on the exploitation of migrant workers, from Vedior in the Netherlands:
The GWU has suggested that discipline be introduced to companies found exploiting the rights of overseas workers and more of an effort should be made to integrate them into communities, the Times of Malta reports. Tony Zarb, general secretary of the GWU, said that many migrant workers are employed in "very dangerous and underpaid conditions"..
The GWU has pledged to train its members how to properly cater for the needs of these workers and plans to hold a related conference next month. After these proposals, the country's Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice professed its support for the GWU's opinions and future plans concerning Malta's migrant workers.
