Pictures in my mind

12 young artists led by Patrick Fenech are exhibiting photography collages at St James Cavalier of images that capture different moments of their personal experiences in Malta, inspired by different identities and diverse cultural communities:
During the workshops, Patrick had been thinking about how to create an exhibition with all the participants works without resorting to the usual picture frames on the wall. In one of the early workshops the artist showed the participants a series of images dealing with the early attempts of photography dating as far back as the 17th century through the principle of the Camera Obscura. He also showed them an etching from the National Library of Paris made in the Hague around 1781 - 1803 that shows a faithful and convenient 'machine' for taking silhouettes.

This idea was an interesting way of personalizing each individual's work but presented in a homogeneous manner. Again the idea of combining the use of a very early attempt at registering an image by tracing a silhouette and a giant leap into the digital age using digital colour photography to record their 'Intercultural dialogue' images.

The silhouettes moreover, emphasise the diversity in the human figure with strong features portraying the various races working as a team to show 'pictures in My mind' as an interpretation of SIGHT.
