Erich Von Daniken , the controversial Swiss author best known for his books which examine possible evidence for extraterrestrial influences on early human culturewas, was recently in Malta re-visiting some of the island's mystery sites:

Today, at a distance of 40 years and with 31 books to his credit, Von Daniken still believes strongly that extra terrestrials were responsible for many of the mysteries of the world, providing early peoples with advanced technologies which we are still today trying to explain away with scant success..

..Coming to Malta once every eight years on average, means Von Daniken has found other important mysteries to fascinate him– the cart ruts and the temples. “I believe the temples are even older than Maltese archaeologists believe. As regards the cart ruts – there is no satisfying explanation to those. When I visit here, I bring a group of similarly interested people – learned people from different walks of life but mostly professionals. We visit these sacred sites and discuss them deeply.”

Von Daniken’s intrigue in Malta was consolidated when he featured the island’s mysteries in a German Sat1 series of TV documentaries some 10 years ago. Next spring will see him embarking on a new series dealing with mysteries around the world for the German Channel Pro7 and Malta’s own mysteries may soon be in the limelight once more.
