Striptease as narrative
The new online journal of contemporary critical thought, Tabellina, is now launched. It is an independent network of writers edited by Sharon Spiteri and Immanuel Mifsud, published in Maltese and English and updated regularly. The first piece uploaded on Tabellina is The Mercy Strip by Immanuel Mifsud translated by Antoine Cassar. From the Mercy Strip:
..In his historical analysis of the Catholic sacrament of confession, Michel Foucault observes the changes that this sacrament has undergone over time. Ever since the 16th century, confession has become a 'meticulous journey through the body', where power and knowledge come to be merged. From the 16th century onwards, not only was it compulsory for the penitent to confess, but s/he had to confess everything. In other words, one was obliged to uncover what one most wanted to conceal. In the confessional, the sinner becomes the penitent, and provides the priest with all the information. The penitent has to reveal everything, to undress and expose the darkest parts of the personality...
